Email setup

Get your Sempya mailbox on your phone and computer

Most apps only need your email address and password — we publish the settings so they configure themselves. If yours asks for server names, they are at the bottom of this page.

Try this first: it usually sets itself up

We publish both discovery standards, so most mail apps find the right settings on their own. Enter your full email address and password and let the app do the rest.

Autodiscover

Used by Outlook (Windows, Mac, Android, iOS).

autodiscover.sempya.co.zm

Autoconfig

Used by Thunderbird, Apple Mail and most Android apps.

autoconfig.sempya.co.zm

This works for every domain we host, not just sempya.co.zm — the same records are published for your own domain.

Server settings

If an app asks you to type these in, these are the values. Your username is your full email address, not just the part before the @.

Sending also needs your password. The most common setup mistake is leaving authentication off for outgoing mail — receiving then works and sending fails silently. Tick “My outgoing server requires authentication” and use the same credentials.

Alternatives that also work: outgoing on port 587 with STARTTLS, if your network blocks 465. For POP3 instead of IMAP, use port 995 with SSL/TLS — but prefer IMAP, which keeps your mail on the server and in sync across devices.

We do not accept unencrypted connections. Port 143 and plain SMTP are closed on purpose. If an app suggests “None” or “STARTTLS optional” for encryption, change it — it will not connect.

Step by step, by device

iPhone & iPadApple Mail
  1. Open Settings → Apps → Mail → Mail Accounts → Add Account.
On iOS 17 and earlier: Settings → Mail → Accounts → Add Account.
  2. Choose Other, then Add Mail Account.
  3. Enter your name, full email address and password, then tap Next.
  4. Leave it on IMAP. If it asks for servers, enter email.sempya.co.zm for both incoming and outgoing, with your full email address as the username in both sections — including the outgoing one, which iOS labels “Optional”. It is not optional here; leave it blank and sending fails.
  5. Tap Save.
AndroidGmail app, Samsung Email, Outlook
  1. In the Gmail app: tap your profile picture → Add another account → Other. In Samsung Email: Add account → Other.
  2. Enter your full email address and tap Next, then Personal (IMAP).
  3. Enter your password.
  4. If it asks for server settings, use email.sempya.co.zm with port 993 (SSL/TLS) incoming and port 465 (SSL/TLS) outgoing.
  5. Make sure Require sign-in is ticked on the outgoing server screen.
OutlookWindows & Mac
  1. Open File → Add Account (Windows), or Outlook → Settings → Accounts → + (Mac). In the new Outlook for Windows, it is the account picker in the top-left.
  2. Type your full email address and click Connect.
  3. Autodiscover should fill everything in — enter your password and you are done.
  4. If it asks you to choose an account type, pick IMAP and use the settings above. Under More settings → Outgoing Server, tick My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication.
Apple MailmacOS
  1. Mail → Settings → Accounts → +, then choose Other Mail Account.
  2. Enter your name, full email address and password, then Sign In.
  3. Autoconfig normally completes it. If not, set both servers to email.sempya.co.zm and account type IMAP.
ThunderbirdWindows, Mac, Linux
  1. Account Settings → Account Actions → Add Mail Account.
  2. Enter your name, full email address and password, then Continue.
  3. Thunderbird reads our autoconfig and fills in the rest. Confirm it shows IMAP, email.sempya.co.zm, SSL/TLS, then click Done.
