A distributor's books are the goods-heaviest of any business — dozens of stock lines, dozens of parties, deposits flowing both ways. Here's how Twikatane Wholesale & Distribution handles it on CloudERP.
A wholesale distributor sits in the middle of a lot of moving parts — many retailers owing money, many principal suppliers to pay, a warehouse full of stock behind all of it. Twikatane Wholesale & Distribution Ltd, one of our eighteen fictional reference companies, is our goods-heaviest example for exactly that reason.
Where the complexity actually is
Fourteen separate stock lines, eight retailer debtors and eight principal creditors — two of them priced in US dollars for imported lines — all sit on Twikatane's books at once. Two mobile-money wallets sit alongside the ordinary bank accounts, reflecting how a lot of retail collection actually happens day to day. Crate deposits run in both directions — held from retailers, and held by Twikatane's own suppliers — and a trade finance facility funds the working capital that a business this inventory-heavy needs to keep moving.
Fully onboarded, and transacting
Twikatane went through the same review and sign-off workflow described in our opening balances post, and has carried on since: a real quotation, order, invoice and payment on the selling side, a real purchase order, supplier bill and payment on the buying side, and — because two of its principal suppliers are dollar-denominated — a month-end exchange rate revaluation on those import creditor balances.
